Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has increased the reward for Good Samaritans helping road accident victims from ₹5,000 to ₹25,000. This was announced by him at a road safety event in Nagpur.
The government will also provide up to ₹1.5 lakh for hospital expenses for the first seven days in case of an accident, for both national and state highways.
The Good Samaritan Scheme was launched in October 2021. It intends to encourage the people who will volunteer to provide immediate care to accident victims by transporting them to hospitals within the critical 'Golden Hour'.
This is an initiative aimed at decreasing road deaths and promoting a culture of responsibility and compassion on the roads.
