Google is making a bold move in the AI space by offering US college students free access to Gemini Advanced, its most powerful AI model, until June 2026. The initiative, quietly announced through official channels, includes 2TB of cloud storage and access to additional AI-driven tools such as NotebookLM Plus and Whisk.
Students who sign up before June 30, 2025, will gain full access to Gemini Advanced, which is backed by the Gemini 2.5 Pro model. Designed to enhance academic productivity, the AI tool allows users to summarize vast amounts of information, conduct deep research, and generate multimedia content such as videos and podcasts.
Gemini Advanced integrates seamlessly with Google’s ecosystem, enabling students to use AI within Docs, Sheets, and Gmail. The platform also features Gemini Live, which supports real-time brainstorming, presentation practice, and interactive learning.
Industry experts view this initiative as Google’s strategic response to competition from Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. By embedding AI into students’ daily workflows, Google aims to solidify its presence in the education sector while fostering AI adoption among young professionals.
Currently, the offer is exclusive to students in the United States. Those outside the country, including India, are not eligible unless they meet US-specific criteria such as possessing a .edu email address and being enrolled in a US-based institution. Indian students can still access Gemini Advanced through the Google One AI Premium Plan, which is available as a paid subscription.
