NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) has recently appointed Shri Neeraj Kumar Gupta, a prominent former Indian Administrative Service (IAS), as its new Chairman and Public Interest Director, effective April 19, 2025. His appointment has been approved by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), and he is the first appointee in the capacity of Chairman.
Shri Gupta is an IAS officer of the 1982 batch (UP cadre) with over three decades of experience in finance, corporate governance, and public administration. He retired as Secretary, Ministry of Finance (Department of Investment & Public Asset Management, Government of India) in 2018 and subsequently took up the position of Central Information Commissioner of India until 2023.
As Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, he was responsible for the formulation of three Union Budgets (2016, 2017, and 2018) and was actively involved in taking forward the National Task Force for Promotion of Digital & Cashless Economy. He was key in the management of the Government's investments in two Central Public Sector Enterprises and private companies and interacted with domestic and foreign investors, while also working with regulators to develop policies regarding capital markets, mergers, and equity instruments.
The Chairman and Board of Directors of NSE IX welcomed Shri Gupta, stating, "We are confident that his extensive knowledge and understanding of corporate governance and finance will be invaluable for the future development of NSE IX and the overall GIFT City ecosystem."
