Delhi’s EV Policy 2.0 Charges Ahead as Global Growth Cools

Delhi’s EV Policy 2.0 (draft under review) targets a phased CNG and petrol vehicle ban, with no new CNG three-wheelers permitted after August 15, 2025. The policy offers up to ₹36,000 subsidies for women buyers of electric two-wheelers and mandates EV transition for garbage trucks by 2027.

 

Globally, Deloitte is forecasting 31.1 million EV sales by 2030, but growth slows after 2025 as ICEs recover briefly before declining. Though China and Europe lead the way in uptake, Delhi policy is mapped to circumvent infrastructure bottlenecks with ring-road charging corridors and 20,000 new jobs.

 

Key tension: Local ambition clashes with global plateaus. Delhi’s aggressive incentives (scrapping bonuses, retrofitting grants) contrast with Deloitte’s warning of uneven regional momentum, requiring sustained investment to meet 2030 targets.
