Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has shut down Terminal 2 (T2) temporarily for a major overhaul, effective April 15, 2025. The shutdown, which is likely to last around four months, will have all flights that were earlier operating from T2, including IndiGo and Akasa Air, shifted to Terminal 1 (T1). This is part of a larger initiative to upgrade and modernize the airport infrastructure.

Key Highlights:
  • Terminal Closure: T2, the oldest terminal at IGIA, is being shut down for good for the last time before possible future redevelopment. The terminal has to be closed down for massive maintenance and upgrade work.
  • Flight Relocation: All domestic flights operating from T2 will now take off and land from T1, which has been upgraded and expanded completely to accommodate higher traffic. Terminal 3 (T3) will still cater to international flights.
  • Passenger Advisory: Passengers are requested to check their terminal flight information prior to travel to prevent inconvenience. Airlines are anticipating and informing passengers themselves through SMS, calls, and emails.
  • Airport Capacity: Even after T2 closure, authorities assure that T1 and T3 will be able to handle passenger traffic comfortably without causing congestion.
This work is part of consistent efforts towards improving passenger experience and airport efficiency and keeping Delhi Airport one of the world's best aviation hubs.
