Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing the ninth position in Airports Council International (ACI) World’s preliminary rankings for 2024. This recognition highlights the airport’s consistent growth in passenger traffic, infrastructure development, and global connectivity.
IGIA handled a record-breaking 77 million passengers in 2024, marking a significant rise from its previous rankings—10th in 2023, 13th in 2021, and 17th in 2019. The airport’s ascent is attributed to major upgrades, including expanded terminal and runway capacity, advanced facial recognition systems, and automated baggage handling. Its network now connects Delhi to over 150 international destinations, further solidifying its status as a global aviation hub.
The airport’s commitment to sustainability has also played a key role in its success, with initiatives such as renewable energy use and eco-friendly operations enhancing its reputation. Earlier this year, IGIA was honored with the Airport Service Quality Award for Best Airport in Asia-Pacific for the seventh consecutive year, underscoring its dedication to delivering exceptional passenger experiences.
