Gurugram is preparing for a big urban mobility boost since the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has suggested the building of five new underpasses along the new metro route. The step plans to address the city's infamous traffic chokepoints and provide smooth integration with the 28.5 km metro extension, which will link Millennium City Centre, Old Gurugram, and Cyber City.
Key Highlights:
The five underpasses will be constructed at choke points: Sector 4/5 crossing on Railway Road, Sheetla Mata Road intersection, Krishna Chowk, Rezangla Chowk, and Palam Vihar Road-Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road intersection.
The plan, which has an estimated cost of ₹350–500 crore, will be placed in the GMDA board meeting on April 23, which is to be presided over by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. If the board approves it, feasibility studies and detailed project reports will be commissioned.
These underpasses, to be constructed by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) at a cost paid by GMDA, would be constructed along with the metro line in order to cause minimum disruption and facilitate smooth coordination.
This is part of a larger plan to construct seven grade separators (flyovers) on the new metro corridor, to relieve congestion, alleviate road-level conflicts, and improve last-mile connectivity for a projected 540,000 daily metro commuters.
The metro expansion and underpass building will start in May 2025, and the deadline is within four years, to give Gurugram a revolutionary kick to its infrastructure and daily existence.
