Bihar on the Fast Track: Namo Bharat Rapid Train to Zoom from Patna to Jayanagar

Bihar stands at the cusp of taking a giant step towards modern railway connectivity as the state is getting ready to experience its first Namo Bharat Rapid Train that will link Patna and Jayanagar. To be dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24 from Madhubani, this new train inaugurates Bihar into India's future-generation rapid railway network, opening up the potential for quicker, safer, and more comfortable journeys between cities to commuters, professionals, and visitors alike.

Inauguration and Launch Details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first Namo Bharat Rapid Train for eastern India on April 24, 2025, from Madhubani, coinciding with a major Panchayati Raj Ministry function.
The launch will also witness the inauguration of four other trains, including the Amrit Bharat Express between Saharsa and Mumbai.

Route and Connectivity

The Namo Bharat Rapid Train will link Patna and Jayanagar, going through major stations: Sakri, Darbhanga, Barauni, Mokama, and Bakhtiyarpur.
The new corridor is under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), which aims to improve intercity connectivity and regional economic integration.

Speed and Travel Time

The train has a maximum speed of 160 km/h, with a design speed of 180 km/h.
Travel time between Patna and Jayanagar, which is 5-6 hours now, will be largely cut down.

Modern Facilities and Amenities

Completely air-conditioned coaches with auto doors, high-speed Wi-Fi, CCTV surveillance, and assigned business-class seats.
One of the coaches is reserved for ladies only, and the train also has Divyangjan-friendly (accessible) amenities.
Each train of 12 coaches can seat around 1,150 passengers.

Manufacturing and Technology

The train is produced by Alstom in Gujarat with an aerodynamic shape for energy conservation and less drag.

The new service should enhance regional connectivity, economic development, and morning-evening commuting comfort for Bihar.
