In 2024, Apple saw a huge decline in the Chinese smartphone market, with shipments falling 17% year-over-year and its market share down to 15%. This decline gave way to domestic brands Vivo and Huawei, which overtook Apple, with Vivo taking 17% and Huawei taking 16% of the market. Vivo's success is due to good marketing and strong operator partnerships, while Huawei's resurgence is due to launching advanced devices with local chipsets, which appeal to patriotic consumers. In addition, Apple has been left out of the Chinese market because of its slow integration of artificial intelligence capabilities in its iPhones.
