Anna Creek Station: The Mammoth Farm Changing the Game in Agriculture

Deep in South Australia's harsh outback stands Anna Creek Station, an enormous cattle ranch that strains credulity. Measuring an incredible 15,746 square kilometers, this privately-held ranch is larger than the land area of 49 countries, including such nations as Israel and the Netherlands. Yet Anna Creek has only 11 staff members—a miracle achieved through advanced technology.

The unforgiving environment of the station is as breathtaking as its size. With only about 20 centimeters of rainfall each year and summer days reaching a scorching 55°C, the terrain accommodates only meager grass growth. It needs its enormous size to support 17,000 head of cattle. Sophisticated equipment such as remote-controlled irrigation systems and light planes for aerial spotting of cattle are essential in operations. Motorbike-riding workers drive the cattle across the barren plains.

Anna Creek's history can be traced as far back as 1858 when it was initially a sheep farm. Relentless losses through dingo attacks led to a transition to cattle farming and a move to its present location in 1872. Currently, owned by Williams Cattle Company since 2016, Anna Creek is a testament to man's ability to conquer nature's setbacks.
