Aamir Khan's long-postponed Mahabharat adaptation is finally on the cards, with the actor-producer promising to start developing the script this year—though the writing alone may take several years. Taking a cue from the epic proportions of The Lord of the Rings, Khan wants to attempt a sweeping multi-part film series, with perhaps multiple directors working concurrently to bring India's finest epic onto the screen in a shorter time frame.
Aamir, who refers to Mahabharat as his "greatest aspiration," will be producer and has provided no indication that he'll be appearing on camera, stating casting would rely on who best fit each role. The scope of the production indicates that fans shouldn't expect anything soon, but Khan's inclusion ensures a landmark cinema experience is now in progress.
